Southport started the second half well, when after some sustained pressure by their forwards; they scored near their left touch line. The try was unconverted. Although Orrell then mounted a number of attacks, these broke done, some due to poor decisions, by Orrell and good defence work by Southport. With about 15 minutes left Orrell failed to stop a Southport kick going into touch close to their 22 metre line. Southport won the ball and again drove over to score their second try which was converted. With less than 10 minutes remaining Southport were down to 14 men, when one of their forwards was sin binned. Orrell were unable to capitalise on the one man advantage and when they tried to chip the ball over the Southport defence, it was missed-kicked and Southport recycled the ball to score their final try which was converted. The referee then blew for full time. Orrell must feel that that they missed a number of opportunities in which they should have scored in this game. Final score Southport 19 Orrell 0
