Orrell's visitors Moore started well with their big pack of forwards winning the early encounters. Powerful drives from captain Alex Simpson and man of the match Danny Allen took Orrell into their opponents half and a high tackle gave Orrell a penalty which Chris Bennett converted.
The home side were now on top and excellent work on the floor from Jon Pegg released the backs and a fine break and kick inside from wing Chris Owen led to a scrum down close to the Moore line. A quick ball from the scrum was passed along the back line for full back Gary Nicholson to score and reward Orrell for their efforts.
Moore were certainly not beaten yet and inevitably their forwards took command and drove the ball close to the Orrell try line. Good defence kept them at bay, however following a 5 metre scrum after the ball had been held up over the line, they powered over for a try close to the posts and the conversion narrowed the scoreline to just one point.
Orrell finished the half strongly with the backs looking sharp but unable to add a further score.
The second half started with two tries from Orrells rising stars to take the game away from Moore. Firstly Chris Owen showed electrifying pace to round the opposition defence and score wide on the right, and shortly after John Presho showed remarkable strength to power through the Moore forwards and force his way over the line.
Chris Bennett added the conversion and a further penalty to give Orrell a comfortable advantage.
Replacement forward Michael Caldwell impressed with strong runs late in the game but no further scores were added.
Next week Orrell travel to Southport looking to avenge defeat in the corresponding fixture last season, kick off 3.00pm.
Playing in the Raging Bull Plate Orrell 2nd XV beat Newton le Willows, 25 v 7 to march on to the Quater Final round of the competition.
