Wallasey had the better of the remainder of the half and it was only strong defence that prevented them scoring. Orrell did have a final flourish when a break from Hughes set up Max Huxley who earned a penalty which was missed. A series of scrums followed close the visitor's line but no reward resulted as Wallasey defended valiantly.
Orrell again started the second half strongly and Mark Hewlett broke through to set up good ball for his forwards. The referee awarded a penalty which this time Hughes converted.
There followed a period of kicking from which Wallasey came out on top due to good work from their stand off Sutton and with good field position the visitors ran in two converted tries to give them the lead.
The game needed a strong finish from Orrell and they duly delivered with good work rewarded by two penalties converted by reliable Hughes.
The home side hung onto their two point advantage to secure a good win, which moved them up the table into third place as local rivals Ruskin Park's game fell victim to the weather.
Next Saturday Orrell travel to Marple for their rearranged fixture.
