At the half way point in the first half Ruskin broke the deadlock when the Orrell defence finally cracked and a series of missed tackles allowed the home side left wing to score in the corner.
The Orrell forwards led by Michael Caldwel and Danny Allen started to take control and an excellent performance from Peter Sprung playing at prop gave Orrell the advantage. With good possession for the backs winger Gary Nicholson made a good break and from the resultant maul Caldwell was held up just short of the line.
Orrell maintained good periods of possession and looked most likely to score but their kicking game was not working well and against the run of play Ruskin broke through to score a second try on the right wing.
The half ended with both sides reduced to 14 men following a double sin binning.
Ruskin started the second half well and won a penalty which they converted to extend their lead. Assisted by a strong wind the home side dominated territory and played in Orrell's half for long periods. But there was to be no more score from either side, with Orrell's best chances arriving with the final whistle just minutes away.
Overall this was a poor performance from Orrell and could prove to be costly at the end of the season.
Orrell's next game is in two weeks at home to Sefton, kick off 2 30pm.
