Douglas then had a number of chances to put points on the board from a series of penalties, but they were all unsuccessful. However, 30 minutes into the game Orrell lost the ball at a ruck. Douglas took the ball down their left wing and kicked ahead and won the race to touch down. The try was converted ant the score remained Douglas 7 Orrell 3 at half time.
In the second half Orrell’s forwards began to dominate, with man of the match, Jonny Pegg taking a number of balls against the head. After 10 minutes in the second half, from a scrum close to Douglas’s 20 metre line, Mick Cardwell picked up at number 8, and feed Jeff Huxley, who passed to Max Huxley on the wing, who scored in the corner. The try was unconverted, but it put Orrell in the lead 7 – 8.
With just over 20 minutes left in the game, Orrell were again pressurising the Douglas line, and were awarded a series of penalties, which they choose to scrum and were eventually awarded a penalty try by the referee. This was converted by Bennett, extending Orrell’s lead to 7 – 15.
However, with 10 minutes left in the match, Douglas turned over the ball just inside their own half and worded it down their left wing, where the ball was passed inside for them to score under the post. The try was converted, leaving Orrell in the lead by only one point.
In the dying minutes of the game, Douglas attacked the Orrell line, but an attempted drop goal was missed. Douglas had a final attempt to win the game when they were awarded a penalty just inside the Orrell half, near the touch line, but fortunately for Orrell it missed and the final whistle blow for Orrell to win 14 – 15
